A recent note to investors by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that in addition to Hyundai, Apple could also turn to General Motors (GM) and European manufacturer PSA. Exactly what components these companies will be supplying remains unclear, but as for Hyundai, Kuo believes that Apple will most likely be using the company’s E-GMP platform.
This means that in terms of suppliers, Hyundai could play the biggest role. For those unfamiliar, E-GMP is an electric vehicle platform that the company unveiled back in December last year. It consists of a dedicated battery, two motors, a five-link rear suspension, integrated drive axle, a charge system, and rolling chassis components. This means that most of what would drive the car would be contained in this E-GMP system. So like we said, Hyundai could play a vital role in making Apple’s electric car a reality.
That being said, we should point out that there was a recent report that suggested that not all of Hyundai’s executives were on board the idea. Despite this potentially being a huge contract, the report claims that some execs don’t think that just because it’s for a company as huge as Apple means that it would produce great results.
