Amazon has recently made a surprise announcement for a trio of smart home products that you could be interested in. This includes a smart cuckoo clock, a smart nutrition scale, and also a smart sticky note printer. All of these are, of course, integrated with Alexa which will allow you to use your voice to control them.
However, here’s the kicker, Amazon is seeking funding to make these products a reality. It’s kind of like Kickstarter for its own products where unless they meet their pre-order goal, they will not be made. This isn’t a new concept and given how novel these products are, we suppose Amazon is looking to reduce its risk by not ordering a bunch of them only for a small percentage to be sold.
By setting a minimum MOQ, Amazon can ensure that they won’t be sitting on excess inventory at the end of the day. The downside here is that Amazon will most likely only start the manufacturing process once the deadline ends, so it’s not as if you’ll be able to get them right away.
Amazon is running these pre-orders from today until the 19th of March, so you’ve got yourself about a month to decide if any of these products are for you. It’s an interesting concept and it’ll also be interesting to see which products eventually get made. At this time of writing, the smart sticky notes printer seems to be in the lead and is sitting at 31% of its pre-order goal.
