For those who are unfamiliar, Twitch Clips basically allows viewers of a stream to cut out snippets of that stream that can be uploaded as a VOD. Since streams can be long and not always particularly exciting, Clips lets viewers choose the more exciting parts so that it can save the time of others who don’t want to watch the entire thing.
YouTube’s Clips feature is more or less the same thing, where users will be able to clip sections of a stream to save and upload for later. However, it should be noted that this is currently a feature that is in testing, which means that it will only be available to a small number of creators while they test it out and make tweaks if necessary.
According to YouTube, “We’ve heard a lot of feedback from creators and viewers who have wanted an easy way to capture short segments of content and share moments from videos or streams. We’re excited to begin our testing of a clipping feature on YouTube starting today with a small group of creators while we start gathering feedback. Creation of clips is currently available on desktop and Android devices to start, with iOS devices coming soon.”
