That being said, the good news is that MagSafe could be making a return. A report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has suggested that with the next-gen MacBook Pro, Apple could be bringing back the magnetic-based charging system. Gurman also claims that with the new MagSafe system will also help facilitate even faster charging speeds than what’s being offered, but exactly by how much remains to be seen.
We have heard rumors in the past that suggests that Apple could be looking to redesign its MacBooks and iMac, so it would make sense that they would choose this redesign to reimplement MagSafe. However, this does beg the question of whether or not users will have the choice of charging over MagSafe or USB-C, or if they’ll only be able to choose from one.
One of the upsides of USB-C is that users could connect it to a monitor that also supports USB-C, and in turn it would power both the laptop and monitor at the same time. This makes for a much cleaner setup, although the addition of MagSafe could complicate things. Either way, take it with a grain of salt until we can get additional information.
