The problem with laptop screens is that it forces us to look down. Also, given their size, there are a lot of times when we find ourselves having to adjust the angle of the screen to suit our sitting position. However, Microsoft is hoping to change that by creating a laptop display that can adjust itself automatically.
According to the patent, it suggests that through the use of identifying the user’s gaze, the laptop’s display can then automatically make self-adjustments so that it ensures that the user will be able to see the contents of the screen all the time. This patent wouldn’t just be for regular users, but it could also be useful for those who are handicapped.
For example, if a person was in a wheelchair and couldn’t move their arms, a laptop with a self-adjusting display could be really useful and valuable and it could react to the user instead of the user having to adjust it themselves or call for help. It would also be useful in confined spaces when you’re traveling, like in a plane or train where table space is quite limited.
That being said, this is only a patent and there is no suggestion that Microsoft has plans to make it a reality, so don’t get your hopes up at seeing this become an actual feature in a future Microsoft Surface laptop.
