This is according to a report from Macotakara who claims that the 9th-gen iPad will come with a design similar to that of the iPad Air 3 which was released a few years ago. For those unfamiliar, the current iPad’s design is still reminiscent of the older design where it has huge bezels and continues to use a Touch ID home button.
The iPad Air 3, on the other hand, offers up a similar-ish design but with thinner bezels. The report claims that Apple will continue to treat this tablet as a budget model, so don’t expect to see higher-end features like Face ID built into it, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing because at $329 and with support for the Apple Pencil, it’s actually a pretty affordable way for those who are looking to get a tablet with Apple Pencil support.
There is no word on when the tablet will be announced, but Apple has been rumored to launch a new iPad Pro with a mini LED display in the first quarter of 2021, so perhaps we’ll see an updated iPad at the event as well, but until then, take it with a grain of salt.
