With Amazon taking the Lord of the Rings franchise and turning it into a TV series, it seems that the folks at HBO are also looking to do something similar with a massively popular franchise – Harry Potter. A report from Variety is claiming that a new Harry Potter TV series could be in development at HBO Max.
The report has since been corroborated by THR who claims that ideas have been discussed, but notes that nothing concrete has been decided and that no deals have been made, so it is possible that the idea could have been floated but whether or not it actually becomes reality remains to be seen.
To that end, HBO Max and Warner Bros. have since issued a statement to THR which reads, “There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform.” It is possible that it is true, there is no development yet, but it doesn’t mean that ideas weren’t being thrown around.
J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter universe has been expanded ever since the movies were released. We’ve already seen plays based on the universe, and there are also the Fantastic Beasts films in which two movies have already been made. We’re not sure what a TV series based on it could look like, but it does sound like an interesting idea.
