According to the latest figures from JustWatch, based on the data that they’ve collected, it turns out that Apple TV+ is only commanding a measly 3% of the US market. This puts Apple TV+ in the last place as far as streaming services are concerned, where even NBCUniversal’s Peacock managed to fare much better at 6%.
Unsurprisingly, Netflix is still very much dominating the US market with a 31% market share. Amazon Prime Video actually comes in second at 22%, followed by Hulu at 14%, and Disney+ at 13%. HBO Max also managed 9%, which is impressive given that they launched after Apple TV+ did.
It is unclear why Apple TV+ isn’t doing as well as the company had hoped. There are several reasons theorized as to why, such as how the pandemic in 2020 pretty much halted a lot of the production that Apple had planned. Also, the TV app isn’t exactly user-friendly and isn’t very intuitive when it comes to discovering original content. Either way, hopefully 2021 will be a better year for Apple.
