When you consider how old World of Warcraft is, you might expect that the number of people who continue to play the game has dwindled, and you would be right. However, it seems that with the release of the Shadowlands expansion, Blizzard has experienced a fresh surge of new players.
In fact, it also seems that World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is apparently the fastest-selling PC game of all time. According to Activision, the game managed to sell more than 3.7 million units globally on the first full day of launch. The previous title was also held by another Blizzard game – Diablo 3 – which sold 3.5 million on the first full day.
However, Shadowlands’ achievement is more impressive because like we said, the game is more than 10 years old and to be able to sell that many units even until today is quite a feat. Activision is also boasting that in the months leading up to the expansion’s release, World of Warcraft has reached and sustained its highest number of players on monthly or long-term subscriptions compared to previous expansions.
So far, many have praised the Shadowlands expansion. While the game did miss its initial release date, it seems that it might have been for the better because many players have reacted positively to the game, claiming it to be a much better expansion compared to some of its predecessors.
