The internet is full of all kinds of information. Some of it, like the news, can be a bit depressing when you hear about all the bad things happening around us, which is why every now and then, it might not be a bad idea to have a good laugh or two. Twitter thinks that they can help by trying to surface tweets it thinks you might find funny.
The social media platform has announced a new personalization feature in which they will try to search for and display funny tweets for you. Now given that each person has a different sense of humor, obviously what’s funny to me might not be funny for you and vice versa, but Twitter thinks that they have managed to figure out your brand of humor based on tweets you’ve liked and retweeted in the past.
We also know that humor ranges, so we'll show you a lot of different Tweets starting out. Let us know what you like by liking/RTing the ones you enjoy, and selecting Not Interested on Tweets you don’t. We’ll then show you more Tweets that match what you like.

In a way this is similar to the personalized feed, where it shows you tweets that you might be interested in. This is something that many social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram have done, but it is interesting that Twitter is trying to apply that to a rather specific category – humor.
According to Twitter’s product manager Isabella Turchetta, “To power Topics like Funny Tweets, we need to understand the emotions behind the Tweets. So for the first time, we’re using an ML model that understands nuanced emotions by learning from Emojis to get a broader understanding of what people think is funny.”
