This is according to an announcement made on Medium by Squad, a company that specializes in video chats and screen sharing. It would appear that Twitter has acquired the company which means that Squad itself would be shutting down on the 12th of December as they are being folded into the company.
In the post written by Squad’s co-founder Esther Crawford, “I’m excited to announce that Twitter has acquired Squad! The team will be joining Twitter to broaden the spectrum of conversations people can have on the service. Specifically, we’ll be bringing our expertise in audio and video to the creation space — and are looking forward to building new formats that allow for fun, meaningful & engaging conversations.”
At the moment it is unclear how Squad will fit into Twitter, but given the company’s specialty, we wouldn’t be surprised if further down the road we can expect to see Twitter gain more video calling abilities.
