Holograms are pretty cool, although in terms of practicality and usefulness, we’re not sure if we’ve completely figured that one out yet. However, we have seen how it can be used at concerts, and if you’ve ever wanted your own personal hologram, it might seem like it could be a very expensive affair, but that might not be the case.
A company on Kickstarter is trying to raise funds for a gadget called the Looking Glass Portrait. One of the key selling points is that it can take photos taken using the iPhone’s Portrait mode and turns it into a hologram portrait on your desk almost instantly. All you need to do is transfer the photo over to its software, process it, and you’ve got a little hologram of yourself or your pet on your desk.
While it might not necessarily be the holograms we’ve seen on TV shows and movies, it is pretty cool and it takes digital photo frames to the next level. However, like we said, we’re not sure what kind of practical use such a device has, but in terms of fun and novelty factor, the Looking Glass Portrait certainly has all of those traits.
That being said, the Looking Glass Portrait device is priced at $199 as an early bird incentive on Kickstarter, so if you’d like to pledge your support or learn more, watch the video above or head on over to its Kickstarter page.
