OnePlus Confirms That They’re Making Their Own Smartwatch

A few years ago, it was revealed that OnePlus had attempted to create their own smartwatch. The company designed one but ultimately decided to scrap the idea and instead chose to focus on their smartphones instead. This was several years ago when OnePlus was still sort of new-ish to the scene.

It made sense back then that the company should focus on their core products first before branching out, but now it seems that maybe it’s time for OnePlus to revisit past projects. In a post made on Twitter, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the company is making their own smartwatch (again) and that it will be released early next year.

Lau does not mention the specs or when the device will be released, but if we had to venture a guess, it might debut alongside the OnePlus 9 which is also pegged for an early 2021 launch. We’re not sure if the company’s smartwatch will use Google’s Wear OS platform or if they could be planning to use their own software, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Also, we’re not sure how much the watch could cost, but hopefully OnePlus will stick to their budget-ish roots and not make it too expensive.
