Microsoft Surface Duo Will Be Released In More Markets Next Year

This year, Microsoft released their first ever smartphone under the Microsoft brand. The company has released smartphones in the past albeit under the Nokia branding, so with the launch of the Surface Duo, it marks the company’s first official steps in the smartphone market under the Microsoft banner.

Unfortunately, the handset was not launched worldwide, but the good news is that come 2021, Microsoft has confirmed that they will be releasing it in more markets. “Since introducing Surface Duo in August 2020, people have asked when we would make this product available outside of the US. We’re pleased to share that in early 2021, we’ll be offering Surface Duo in Canada, United Kingdom, France and Germany. We’re excited to share more information at the beginning of 2021, so stay tuned for more.”

That being said, while it is good news that the phone’s availability will be expanding, we’re not sure if it will do well. This is because the Surface Duo launched in 2020 using 2019 hardware specs, like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855. It also lacks support for 5G, meaning that in 2021, it will be more irrelevant than ever.

This is unless Microsoft plans on introducing an updated model next year, which we guess we’ll have to wait and see.
