Case in point, a report from G1 claims that Brazilian documentary filmmaker Ernesto Galiotto was filming in a small plane and took out his iPhone 6s to capture some photos. Unfortunately, he lost his grip and the phone dropped out of the window, falling to the ground. Galiotto, like most of us, probably expected that the fall would spell the doom of his iPhone, but that was not the case.
Not only did the iPhone survive the fall, but it also managed to keep itself on and was continuously recording the entire time. Galiotto thought he’d take a chance and try to recover his phone and to his surprise, the Find My app showed that the phone was still on and located in the middle of a beach.
According to the filmmaker, “I had faith that I would recover it. I thought, ‘If it didn’t fall in the water, we’ll find it. For a few meters I could have hit a person — and, at that height I was flying, 2,000 feet, it was going to be a tragedy, can you imagine? But it wasn’t a tragedy, it had many emotions.” The phone had a few scratches but was otherwise functional, even though it was merely protected by a simple silicone case and a screen protector. In any case if you’re curious about what it might look like tumbling out of the sky without a parachute, you can check out the video on G1’s website.
