This is part of Apple’s iOS 14.2 update in which according to users who updated to it, they are seeing massive battery drains, where some are claiming to see their batteries drop by as much as 50% in just 30 minutes, which is kind of crazy. This seems to mostly affect older iPhones like the iPhone XS series, the first-gen iPhone SE, and even the 2018 iPad Pro.
It is unclear what the issue could be, but there is a good chance that it is a software issue and not a hardware one. Apple has yet to officially respond to these issues, and to make things a bit more worrying, those who have installed iOS 14.2.1 are claiming that the issue continues to persist.
It is possible that Apple might be aware of the issue and have addressed it in iOS 14.3, which is currently still in beta, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information and hopefully when iOS 14.3 is released, all these battery woes go away.
