The New Instagram Lite App Only Comes In At 2MB

Not all countries around the world have access to fast and stable internet, this is why some companies have developed “lite” versions of their apps that have a smaller footprint to appeal to users living in such regions. Now it looks like Instagram is back with its new “lite” app that weighs in at an impressive 2MB.

If you’re wondering why this sounds familiar, it is because it was earlier this year that Instagram had actually killed off an earlier iteration of its lite app. The company stated that they were working on a new version, and now it looks like it has since been officially announced, although for now it appears that the app is only available in India.

The app will function like regular Instagram, where users will have access to its core features like a feed and Stories. However, it will dispense with some newer features like Reels and also IGTV, plus there are also no AR-based stickers that you can use while posting to Stories, but otherwise it should still be a largely functional app.

We’re not sure if there are plans to eventually bring the app to other regions because to be honest, having a lite version of an app isn’t such a bad idea, even if you live in a place with a fast and stable connection, so hopefully Instagram eventually gives users that option in the future.
