According to the FTC, they have published an advisory in which they are warning users about these robocalls that come from people that try to pass themselves off as Apple or Amazon representatives. These calls will contain recorded messages where they tell their victims that there might be something wrong with their Apple iCloud account or there’s an issue with a purchase on Amazon.
The ultimate goal is to attempt to steal your login credentials and other types of sensitive information. According to the FTC, “In both scenarios, the scammers say you can conveniently press 1 to speak with someone (how nice of them!). Or they give you a phone number to call. Don’t do either. It’s a scam. They’re trying to steal your personal information, like your account password or your credit card number.”
The best thing to do when you receive such calls is to either reject it outright, or if you’re nice enough to answer a call from an unknown number, just hang up. If you are truly concerned about it, then hang up and call the companies directly yourself to verify the issue.
