However, the company later suspended its verification program as they wanted to work through some of its kinks. The good news for users who are hoping to get verified, Twitter has announced that come 2021, they will be launching their verification program again, and are seeking feedback from the public on how they should approach it.
According to Twitter, “We know how important it is to be able to express yourself and understand who you’re talking to on Twitter. So today, we’re sharing the start of our plans to revamp how people can identify themselves on Twitter, starting with verification and asking the public to share feedback on a draft of our new verification policy. Calling for public feedback has become an important part of our policy development process because we want to ensure that, as an open service, our rules reflect the voices of the people who use Twitter.”
For now, Twitter will be focusing on verification for individuals or companies that fall under Government, Companies, Brands and Non- Profit Organizations, News, Entertainment, Sports, Activists, Organizers, and Other Influential Individuals. The company also states that apart from the revered blue check, they are also looking into other labels and account types that can help users identify themselves in other ways.
