However, to everyone’s surprise, it seems that Samsung has recently pushed out a firmware update for the Galaxy S6 and Note 5, both of which were released 5 years ago and are more or less considered obsolete. The changelog for this firmware is a bit sparse, but SamMobile speculates that it could be due to a security issue that has forced Samsung to push out an update to address it before it becomes a big problem.
This is just speculation so it is unclear why there is a sudden update, but if for whatever reason you’re still holding onto your Galaxy S6 or Note 5, then maybe this is an update you’ll want to check out when it becomes available in your region. The update started in South Korea and has been making its way to other parts of the world, so do keep an eye out for it.
Note that this update is only for the firmware of the phone. Both phones are essentially still stuck on Android 7.0 Nougat as far as official updates are concerned, so it’s not as though you’ll be getting the latest Android version here.
