It’s hard to say when life will return to normal as the coronavirus pandemic is still going on. Right now, countries can only manage cases as they pop up and to try and reduce the spread as much as possible, but those are just temporary measures, at least until a vaccine has arrived and we immunize ourselves to it.
The good news is that it appears that companies who are working on a vaccine are having some success, or at least some of them are. Moderna, who is widely considered one of the frontrunners when it comes to development of a COVID-19 vaccine, has reported that their vaccine in its current stage is found to be 94.5% effective.
According to Dr. Tal Zacks, Moderna’s chief medical officer, “It was one of the greatest moments in my life and my career. It is absolutely amazing to be able to develop this vaccine and see the ability to prevent symptomatic disease with such high efficacy.” In fact, it seems to be doing so well that according to Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the US’ top infectious disease doctors, vaccinations with high-risk groups could actually begin in the second half of December.
Moderna isn’t alone in their success in the development of a vaccine. A recent report has also revealed that a vaccine developed by Pfizer/BioNTech was 90% effective.
