According to GeekBench benchmarks of the 13-inch M1 MacBook Air, it seems that it has managed to outperform Apple’s 2019 Intel-based 16-inch MacBook Pro. The 16-inch MacBook Pro was basically the highest-end MacBook Pro that one could buy from Apple, but it now looks like even the entry-level MacBook Air has it beat.
The GeekBench results revealed that the M1 MacBook Air scored 1,687 in terms of single-core performance and 7,433 in multi-core score. This is versus the 16-inch MacBook Pro with an Intel Core i9 model which scored 1,096 and 6,870 respectively. However, this is just in terms of performance and we are curious about whether or not Apple’s M1’s built-in GPU will have what it takes to challenge the likes of NVIDIA or AMD.
Of course, performance is just one side of the story and that there are other things to consider like app compatibility and availability, but so far, things are looking extremely promising and this could be a less awkward transition than some might have feared.
