Apple’s M1 GPU Has Managed To Beat Out Some AMD And NVIDIA GPUs

With Apple’s new M1 SoCs, Apple pretty much ditched using discrete GPUs that are found on some of their previous Mac models, like AMD. While we under that Apple wants to become more self-reliant, there is the question of how good Apple’s own GPUs are in the M1, and how it might hold up against the competition.

It turns out that it seems to perform just fine, where based on benchmarks, it appears to have beaten out the likes of NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and AMD’s Radeon RX 560. Now, for those unfamiliar, the GTX 1050 Ti and the RX 560 aren’t exactly considered to be high-end GPUs. They hover around the entry-level/mid-range mark, so for the M1 to beat it isn’t exactly the most impressive thing we’ve seen.

However, to be fair, the current use of the M1 is being used in Apple’s computers that did not typically rely on the use of discrete GPUs. Instead, the computers that use the M1 relied on Intel’s integrated graphics in previous models, so they weren’t exactly packing a lot of power to begin with.

However, the fact that the M1 handily beat out these GPUs would suggest that if you wanted to play some games on the new M1 Mac computers or perform tasks that might require more graphical processing power, it might be able to handle some of that. It will be interesting to see if Apple could introduce a variant of the M1 in the future that could offer even more powerful graphics.
