However, it seems that maybe Apple is still interested in the technology, and a new report from UDN claims that Apple is in the process of testing out designs for a foldable iPhone, and that this device could launch as soon as 2022, which is two years from now. We are a bit skeptical of those claims, namely because Apple has never really shown their interest in such technology in the past, at least not publicly.
This is versus companies like Samsung who have publicly shown off their foldable display technology, which made sense that they would eventually create a smartphone using it. In fact, there has been nothing about the iPhone so far that would suggest that it could use foldable or flexible display technology.
That being said, we have seen Apple file patents related to foldable displays, so it would suggest that maybe the company is exploring the idea, at least on paper. Either way, it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt for now.
