Another Patent Suggests That Face ID Could Come To Macs

Ever since Face ID was introduced to the iPhone, many have been wondering if the day could come that Apple might bring it to the Mac. After all, they did bring Touch ID to MacBook laptops, so why not Face ID, right? Now that the M1 MacBook laptops have been released, it seems that we could be one step closer.

Of course, it’s hard to predict exactly what Apple plans to do, but it seems that the company is pretty serious about maybe implementing Face ID in non-iPhone devices. This is thanks to a patent discovered by Apple World Today where the company has come up with another method of implementing Face ID into computers.

This is not the first patent we’ve seen that tries to integrate Touch ID into Mac computers, but given that we’ve already seen a few patents, it’s hard not to wonder if this is only a matter of when, and not a matter of if. Given that save for the Mac mini and Mac Pro that rely on external displays, all of Apple’s computers come with built-in cameras.

This means that integrating Face ID shouldn’t be too complex. Plus Apple has also started introducing a security chip in the form of the T2 that should help with Face ID’s implementation and security. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see, but hopefully this is something Apple is seriously considering.
