In fact, the M1’s performance has not just surprised many of us, but even the folks at Apple themselves. Speaking in an interview with The Independent, Apple’s SVP of software engineering Craig Federighi mentioned how surprised they were while they were developing the chipset.
Federighi was quoted as saying, “We overshot. You have these projects where, sometimes you have a goal and you’re like, ‘Well, we got close, that was fine.’ This one, part of what has us all just bouncing off the walls here — just smiling — is that as we brought the pieces together, we’re like, ‘This is working better than we even thought it would.’”
While the performance, at least on paper, is impressive, what many were more impressed by was the advertised battery life of the new laptops, where Apple claims that they will last anywhere between 17-20 hours. That being said, none of this has been put to the test yet as the new laptops have yet to be released, but they are available for pre-order and we can’t wait to see how they fare with day-to-day use.
