So the question is, with Apple expected to eventually transition to Apple Silicon hardware, what will become of the Mac Pro? According to a report from Bloomberg, it seems that Apple engineers are working on redesigning the Mac Pro where it will continue to sport the same design as the current model, but it is expected to be smaller, about half the size of the current Mac Pro.
Given that Apple Silicon functions more like a system-on-chip rather than a traditional processor like those made by Intel and AMD, it does allow for a considerably smaller footprint. However, the report from Bloomberg mentions that it is unclear if the Apple Silicon Mac Pro will exist as an option to the Intel-based Mac Pro, or if Apple will replace the current model completely.
It will be interesting to see if Apple can create a desktop-class computer using chipsets that are typically found in mobile devices, and if it can retain the same performance. In the meantime, Apple will be hosting an event on the 10th of November where it has been rumored that the first Apple Silicon computers will come in the form of MacBook Pro and MacBook Air laptops.
