Google’s Chromecast is an easy way for users to sort of turn their TVs into smart TVs, where as long as your TV has a HDMI port, you can plug it in and run apps from a phone or computer and mirror it on your TV. However, for the most part, Chromecast was usually about mirroring the screen on another device.
Google wasn’t satisfied with that and has since announced a new Chromecast with Google TV. With this new Chromecast device, it actually comes with the Google TV platform built into it. This will truly turn your existing TV into a smart TV that runs on Google TV, thus allowing you to access apps and more. In a way, you could look at this as Google’s answer to the Apple TV.
According to Google, “The new Chromecast with Google TV comes in a compact and thin design and is packed with the latest technology to give you the best viewing experience. It neatly plugs into your TV’s HDMI port and tucks behind your screen. Power it on and you’ll be streaming crystal-clear video in up to 4K HDR at up to 60 frames per second in no time.”
There will also be an accompanying remote control, something that users have apparently been asking for. The remote also comes with a microphone which allows you to summon Google Assistant. The new Chromecast with Google TV is priced at $49.99 and is currently available for purchase in the US.
