According to Google, “When we detect a serious Google Account security issue, we’ll automatically display an alert within the Google app you’re using and help you address it—no need to check email or your phone’s alerts. The new alerts are resistant to spoofing, so you can always be sure they’re coming from us.”
Google notes that when users are notified of these security issues, they are more likely to do something about it. The company claims that back in 2015 when they started pushing out these notifications through Android itself, they saw a 20-fold increase in the number of people who engaged in these notifications within the hour that they received them.
So by using Google’s own apps, there is a good chance that users might be more inclined to deal with these issues as opposed to other methods like email. Google says that they will be rolling out the feature to a small group of users first, but they will be expanding on its availability early next year.
