This is because AT&T has stopped selling DSL services on the 1st of October. Note that despite the company no longer offering these services, it does not mean that existing users will be left stranded. Subscribers will still be able to connect and use their internet, although the fact that AT&T will no longer sell these plans certainly does seem to hint that eventually they might deprecate the service, although when exactly that will happen remains to be seen.
According to a statement issued by the company, “We’re beginning to phase out outdated services like DSL and new orders for the service will no longer be supported after October 1. Current DSL customers will be able to continue their existing service or where possible upgrade to our 100% fiber network.”
For those unfamiliar, DSL was/is an older form of internet technology that relies on copper cables for the connection. This is versus more modern forms of the internet that use fiber optic cables that generally offer faster speeds. Perhaps AT&T might replace those DSL lines with fiber optic cables in the future, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
