Apple Removes Its TV Remote App From The App Store

The Apple TV comes with a physical remote controller that lets users control the TV with it, but users also had the option of using the Apple-developed Remote app as an alternative. It turns out that that will no longer be the case as the company has since removed the Remote app from the App Store.

It might sound like a bad move on Apple’s part, but it should be noted that Apple has actually built-in a Remote feature into the Control Center in iOS. Presumably the inclusion of Remote in the Control Center means that having an app would be redundant, plus having it already available on iPhones means users won’t need to go hunting for the app.

However, it’s still hardly a perfect scenario. According to users, the Remote feature in Control Center seems to pale in comparison compared to the dedicated app. Some claim that it just doesn’t work until the Remote app has been launched first, while others point out that there are several features missing from the Control Center version compared to the dedicated app.

Obviously ideally you would use the physical remote, but it’s always nice to have options. In any case, if you have already downloaded the app, you might still be able to keep using it with your Apple TV, but if you haven’t, then you’re out of luck.
