The report claims that Apple’s recently announced Beats Flex earphones are off to a good start and the momentum is expected to continue well into the first half of 2021. For those unfamiliar, the Beats Flex are a pair of $49 earphones that share similarities to the BeatsX. It is about $20 more expensive than the EarPods that are typically bundled with the iPhone, but the fact that it is wireless does make it more compelling.
Given that Apple has ditched the 3.5mm headphone jack, users who want to use wired headphones will need one that has a Lightning connector or deal with an adapter, so in reality, $49 for a pair of earphones that doesn’t require that kind of hassle is actually not too bad of a deal.
The report goes on to cite a report from Counterpoint which found that Apple’s AirPods were the top-selling true wireless devices of 2020, making up for 35% of the global market share. DigiTimes believes that Apple’s choice to ditch the accessories will soon be copied by other handset manufacturers who might have initially mocked the company, but we suppose it’s hard to argue against the profits.
