Ever since Apple introduced USB-C to their MacBook laptops, they pretty much ditched the MagSafe chargers, much to the dismay of many a MacBook owner. However, it appears that the company could be looking to bring back the MagSafe branding, but unfortunately it might not be in the way many are hoping for.
According to a series of posts made on Weibo by user “Kang”, apparently Apple will be reusing the MagSafe branding for several iPhone related accessories. This is said to include an iPhone case that comes with a magnet built into the case itself, as well as a couple of new wireless chargers that will apparently be known as the MagSafe Charger and the MagSafe Duo Charger.
There have been rumors that Apple could revive their wireless charging mat, but it’s interesting that they might actually ditch the AirPower branding in favor of MagSafe. The use of magnets is doubly interesting as apparently it will be used to help align or snap the iPhones into place on the charger, similar to how the Apple Watch’s magnetic charger works.
In any case, it will be interesting to see if these rumors are true, and more importantly how Apple plans to market them and set them apart from the current wireless chargers in the market today. We will have all the details next week so check back with us on the 13th of October for more updates.
