Ring is mostly known for its home security systems like its smart doorbell and more recently its home security camera that comes with a built-in sentry drone. However, it seems that the company has decided to expand on their portfolio where they’ll be moving beyond the home and into automobiles.
This will come in the form of a couple of new Ring products like the Car Alarm and Car Cam. With the Ring Car Alarm, this gadget can be easily installed by plugging it into your car’s ODB port. It will send push notifications and alerts to your phone if it detects an intrusion, and users can even use their mobile devices to trigger a siren that will hopefully deter would-be thieves.
As for the Ring Car Cam, this device will pull double or even triple duty where it will keep an eye out on your car while it’s parked, like notifying users when there is a break-in or if someone bumps into it, and it can also act as a dash cam when you are driving, so if you’re looking for a more comprehensive system beyond just an alarm, then the Car Cam could be for you. This will, of course, require you to subscribe to an LTE plan, but the upside is that you’ll be able to receive alerts even if you’re overseas.
The Ring Car Alarm will be priced at $60 while the Car Cam will retail for $200. There is no date on their availability just yet, but they are expected to arrive some time in 2021.
