Due to the fact that home security cameras are becoming cheaper, easier to install, and easier to use, it’s not surprising that more people are starting to use them. For the most part, they get the job done, but who’s to say that it cannot be improved upon? That’s what Amazon is trying to do with its latest Ring home security camera.
Dubbed the Ring Always Home Cam, this is a home security camera that actually comes with a drone built into it. Yes, you read that right. This security camera has a tiny drone that can fly out from its dock upon command, meaning that instead of getting multiple cameras to cover multiple areas, you can just use one to fly to specific areas you want to take a look at.
The best part is that this also addresses some privacy concerns about always-on cameras. The dock itself does not have a camera and the camera is built into the drone. This means that when the drone is docked, the dock blocks the camera so that even if it is recording, it won’t be able to capture any video.
The drone is fully autonomous, but users can set a path to fly if they wish. Users will be asked to help build a map for the drone when they first set it up, so that the drone will know about specific areas like your kitchen, bedroom, and so on. The Ring Always Home Cam will be priced at $250 and will be released in 2021.
