If you’re a fan of Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise, you might be pleased to learn that Netflix has recently announced that they will be launching a new animated series called Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness where it will be arriving on Netflix in 2021 and will be exclusive to the streaming platform.
According to the announcement, “This will be a horror-action series based around the stories of the two popular characters, Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. By adding suspense into dynamic action scenes, this series will reveal a Resident Evil world unlike anything seen before.”
This would not be the first time that we’re seeing an animated series based on Resident Evil. There was the Resident Evil: Vendetta animated movie that was released back in 2017, but as per Netflix’s announcement, technology has since advanced and evolved, which will apparently allow for “unprecedented full 3DCG animation”.
The teaser trailer actually looks pretty good and seems like an extended cinematic cutscene from the game. Whether or not this is a good or bad thing is up to you, but it should be rather interesting all the same. Netflix has adapted video games into animated series in the past with great success, like its Castlevania series. They have also successfully made live-action series on video games like the Witcher, so hopefully Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will live up to the hype.
