Now according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, he claims that if you want an iPhone with a 120Hz refresh rate display, you might have to wait until 2021. According to Kuo, he alleges that the reason why Apple scrapped their plans for a 120Hz display in the iPhone 12 was due to battery concerns.
Given that the iPhone doesn’t exactly have that good of a reputation when it comes to battery life, we’re sure that Apple probably did not want to make it worse. Kuo also goes on to claim that Apple might be adopting LTPO technology in 2021’s iPhones that would lower the display’s power consumption, which in turn would allow them to introduce 120Hz refresh rates.
We have seen in battery tests that devices with higher refresh rates will consume noticeably more battery life than those that do not, so maybe Apple made the right call here. As to whether or not 120Hz displays in 2021’s iPhones are a guarantee, it’s hard to say so take it with a grain of salt.
