According to an announcement by Broadcom, they have stated that the ramp-up of their annual chip shipments will be taking place later this year, or more specifically, in the fourth quarter of 2020. The company typically ramps up its shipments in the third quarter, which is usually when Apple launches their iPhones.
While Broadcom does not mention Apple or the iPhone, given that a fifth of the company’s revenue comes from Apple, it has been speculated by many that the delay could be tied-in with Apple’s delay of the iPhone 12’s launch. With the fourth quarter of the year starting in October, this also seems to tie-in nicely with the rumors that the iPhone 12 could be announced in October as well.
At the moment there have been several theories as to why the iPhone 12 could be delayed, but most of them have been tied to the coronavirus pandemic that has impacted companies around the world, forcing manufacturing operations to shut down temporarily.
