How this works is that customers will need to sign up and register a credit card with the company first, and then scan their palm. After that, whenever customers shop, they can simply hold their palm above the reader and it will scan it, and then after that it will authenticate the user and the payment will be made, all in about a second or so.
The idea of palm recognition isn’t exactly new and we have seen companies introduce it in the past. However, for whatever reason, it simply did not catch on, but with Amazon’s reach like the fact that they own Whole Foods and also its Amazon Go stores, perhaps this might give the technology a chance to become more mainstream.
In a way, it is also “safer” given the current pandemic, where contactless payments will help reduce our need to touch surfaces which may or may not be contaminated. Right now, Amazon One will be trialed at two Amazon Go stores – the original Amazon Go store at 7th & Blanchard and the store at South Lake Union at 300 Boren Ave. North.
