If you thought that the design for Amazon’s Echo and Echo Dot speakers were a little dated, then you might be interested to learn that the company has since taken the wraps off a brand new design for its Alexa-enabled speakers. As you can see in the photo above, Amazon has decided to give it a makeover, resulting in a spherical design.
According to Amazon, with the new Echo, they have decided to combine both the Echo and Echo Plus features into a single unit, while keeping it at the price of an Echo. Both the new Echo and Echo Dot will feature the use of a fabric finish and will also sport an LED light ring at the bottom to give it an underglow-like effect.
One of the main differences between the Echo and Echo Dot would be the size of the speakers, where the Echo will come with a 3-inch woofer and dual-firing tweeters, while the Echo Dot will come with a single 1.6-inch front-firing speaker. Given that these are Alexa-enabled speakers at their core, it also means that save for the new design, they’ll still be able to do everything Alexa can do.
The brand new Echo will be priced at $100 while the Echo Dot will retail for $50. Both are scheduled for a release on the 22nd of October, but they are available for pre-order now.
