You can pay for gas using cash or credit card. Those payment methods aren’t new and have been around for a while now, but it seems that you will now be able to pay for gas using your voice, thanks to an Alexa skill that is making its way to thousands of gas stations located throughout the country.
This feature was actually announced back at CES 2020, but it has now started to roll out to 11,500 Exxon and Mobil locations across the US. So how does this work? Does the gas pump actually recognize your voice? Not really. Basically, in order to pay using your voice using Alexa, you need to go to a participating gas station and launch Alexa asking for it to let you pay for gas.
It will then ask you to confirm the station you are at and also the pump number, after which it will then activate the pump and you will be charged through Amazon Pay. We’re not necessarily sure if this is a faster way of making payment since there are several steps you have to go through, but it could be useful if you forget to bring your wallet with you and all you have is your smartphone.
