While we’re not sure how this would work out, Bloomberg suggests that the AR content could be akin to director commentary, where those who want to enjoy the show with additional content or interaction could use their iPhones or iPads to check out the AR tech. It could also be Apple trying to lay the foundation for future devices, like the company’s rumored smart glasses that would feature the technology as well.
According to the rumors, Apple is working on a pair of smart glasses that would overlay AR information on the lenses so that instead of using a smartphone, users could see AR content anytime they want without having to take out their mobile devices. We’ve seen Google attempt to make smart glasses in the past, although they weren’t particularly successful.
Maybe the market wasn’t ready for the tech in the past, but we are curious to see if Apple might succeed where Google failed. The device is rumored for a possible launch either in 2021 or 2022, but we’ll have to wait and see.
