Unfortunately for YouTube TV subscribers, if you are subscribed through the App Store, note that your subscription will be coming to an end after the 13th of March. YouTube has been sending emails out to their users notifying them of these changes.
According to YouTube, “You’re currently subscribed to YouTube TV through Apple in-app purchases, so we’re writing to let you know that, starting March 13, 2020, YouTube TV will no longer accept payment through Apple in-app purchases.” This does not mean that iOS users will no longer be able to use the app, but rather if they want to keep watching, they will need to make the payment through YouTube TV’s own website.
YouTube does not state the reason for this change, but like we said, perhaps the 30% cut Apple takes from in-app purchases is something the company does not relish paying. YouTube is not alone in this as several other companies have made similar moves. Some have kept in-app purchases around, but increased the price to make up the difference.
