Most of us probably think that virtual reality (VR) is used for gaming, but in reality, it can be used for so many other things. One of the things we probably did not anticipate is how VR could be used to allow family members and loved ones say a final goodbye to those who have passed away.
In a clip shared by the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation as part of a documentary titled “I Met You”, it shows how a mom managed to reunite with her deceased daughter, interact with her, and even have a virtual meal with her, thanks to the use of VR. It is an incredibly touching video and do not be surprised if you find yourself in tears after watching it!
Jang Ji-sung lost her daughter, Nayeon, back in 2016 due to an incurable disease. So how did they recreate Nayeon in VR? The production team spent eight months creating the entire set, which includes a virtual reality version of the park that both mother and daughter had visited in real-life.
They also hired a child actress for motion capture, used photos to recreate Nayeon’s likeness as a virtual avatar, and apparently even used snippets of Nayeon’s voice to make it more realistic. If you have about 10 minutes to spare, then this is definitely worth checking out.
