Now it turns out, we might have underestimated just how well it might have done. This is according to a report from Omdia, a research company where based on the data that they have collected, it seems that the iPhone XR has not only done well, but it might have done extremely well to the point where it might have been 2019’s best-selling smartphone.
This is a huge deal because for a phone released in 2018, it continued to dominate the whole of 2019. If the figures are accurate, Apple might have shipped 46.3 million units of the iPhone XR in 2019. Coming in second place would be the iPhone 11 (the successor to the iPhone XR) which shipped 37.3 million, followed by the Samsung Galaxy A10, A50, and A20.
Given the rising costs of smartphones, it doesn’t really come as a surprise that some of the best performers of the year belong to the mid-range category, and we imagine that unless phone makers start slashing prices, this is a trend that will probably continue to hold for the foreseeable future.
