As far as Apple is concerned, it seems that the company is moving towards a password-less future as they have officially joined the Fido Alliance who is now one of the allianc’s board members, joining several other prominent tech companies such as Amazon, Arm, Facebook, Google, Intel, Microsoft, and Samsung.
For those who are unfamiliar, the Fido Alliance aims to eliminate the need for passwords by using trusted devices. This is similar to what companies such as Google have done, where they introduced the Titan security key that when plugged into a device, basically authenticates it for websites and services that supports it.
This means that there will no longer be a need for passwords as all you would need is a trusted device like either a security key or even your smartphone. This will make users less prone to phishing attempts or scam emails since there is no need for users to enter a password, which means that passwords can no longer be stolen.
It is unclear how Apple plans on introducing this tech into its future devices, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
