If you recall, last week there was a rumor that Apple could be working on a new pair of AirPods in the form of the AirPods Pro Lite. The original report claimed that the earbuds were on track for a launch in Q2 2020, but now according to a new report from DigiTimes, they are claiming that the earbuds have since been “delayed”.
The report reads, “Production of the AirPods Pro Lite, an entry-level version of Apple’s AirPods Pro series, is unlikely to kick off in the second quarter as originally planned, according to industry sources.” It is unclear why the earbuds might be delayed, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it were due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak in China, where many of Apple’s suppliers’ factories are located.
In fact, Apple recently warned that there could be iPhone supply shortages due to the virus, so we wouldn’t be surprised if it were to also affected the rumored AirPods Pro Lite. That being said, we are still skeptical about the existence of such a device.
This is because a “Lite” model would suggest that this could be a version of the AirPods Pro except with some features missing or taken out. However, it would also put it in an awkward position as the regular AirPods with the wireless charging case is only a $50 price difference with the AirPods Pro, meaning that it is unclear how this “Lite” model would fit in the lineup.
Either way, take it with a grain of salt for now, and we’ll just have to wait and see how this pans out.
