In a tweet by Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk, he revealed that in the future, Tesla cars might soon be able to talk to people. This means that through a set of speakers, Tesla cars might be able to talk to people around them, perhaps to let them know that they are behind them. We’re not sure if these plans include allowing drivers to communicate directly to people outside, or if it is only through pre-recorded sounds.
That being said, it should be noted that over on the EU, it has become a legal requirement for electric cars to emit noise for safety reasons, so it’s not surprising that Tesla is taking this and running with it. Just last year, the company hinted that additional sound effects such as custom horn noises and movement sounds could be coming to their vehicles as well, so this seems like an extension of those plans.

We’re not sure if this is a feature that will be applicable to older Tesla cars due to the lack of speakers on the outside, but for those that do have the feature, hopefully it will only be a software upgrade away.
