According to the tweet, it seems that Capcom had actually begun development on Resident Evil 8 back in 2016 before Resident Evil 7 was released. However, the project was later put on hold as Capcom reportedly needed more hands on deck for Resident Evil 7 and its DLCs. It was also later reportedly scrapped and only rebooted about 6-7 months ago back in 2019.
What this means is that if you were hoping to see Resident Evil 8 anytime soon, you could be in for a wait as we imagine that it will probably be a few more years before the game is done. It is unclear why Capcom did not pick up where they left off, but perhaps they felt it wasn’t up to scratch or wanted to head in a different direction.

The tweet also alleges that after the remake of Resident Evil 3, gamers probably shouldn’t expect to see more remakes for the next few years. Take this report with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully Capcom will something more official to share in the near future.
