NVIDIA’s Next-Gen Ampere GPUs Could Be 50% Faster Than Turing

If you’re looking to build your next computer and want to build a gaming rig or a computer for video processing or editing, then you might want to hold off on buying a new GPU just yet. This is because according to a report from Taipei Times, it seems that NVIDIA’s next-gen GPUs could offer up 50% speeds compared to its current-gen models.

As it stands, NVIDIA’s current-gen GPUs uses the company’s Turing microarchitecture, but the report from Taipei Times claims that the next-gen CPUs will be using the Ampere microarchitecture built on the 7nm process, and that it will be 50% faster and twice as efficient compared to Turing.

This means that if you have no need to upgrade your computer’s GPUs at the moment, then it could be worth waiting for it since the boost in power and efficiency will no doubt be very much welcome. There is no word on when Ampere-based GPUs will be launched, but it has been suggested that it will most likely be arriving in the second half of 2020.

NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang had previously confirmed that the company does have plans to launch 7nm GPUs, where the majority of the production will be done by TSMC, while a smaller portion will be made by Samsung. However, the CEO stopped short of actually confirming a launch date, but hopefully we’ll have more details in the coming months.
